Air Threading
Serger owners know the trickiest part of preparing your serger is threading it. The Elna eXtend 864 Air has built-in air threading for the upper and lower looper threads. Using this feature, you can thread your eXtend 864 Air quickly and effortlessly. With the push of a lever, a blow of air from the electric motor blows the thread down and right through the looper's eye.
Thread Tension
Thread tension should be adequately adjusted to suit the various types of work. The ideal tension setting for most fabrics and threads is between 3 and 5. However, this can vary quite considerably with special threads. Only use decorative threads in the looper. The thread must move easily without resistance through the looper's eye. Unlimited tension adjustments can be made from 1 to 9. To lower the tension, turn the dial downwards, and to increase the tension, rotate the dial upwards.
Dimensions
The wide, flat workspace of the Elna eXtend 864 Air allows you to serge larger projects without the struggle. The sewing bed measures 4.65" wide in front of the serging needle, 5.59" wide behind the needle, and 9.67" deep.
8-Piece Feed Dog System
The 8-piece Feed Dog System works to smoothly grab and feed all varieties of fabrics from lightweight to thicker materials such as denim, as well as jersey and other stretch knit fabrics.
Stitch Length & Differential Feed Dial
The standard setting for the stitch length dial is 3; however, the stitch length can be adjusted even while sewing. The higher the number on the dial, the longer the stitch.
Try adjusting the differential feed ratio with fabric that tends to stretch or pucker more. 1.0 is the neutral position of the differential feed dial. To create gathers in the material, set the dial higher than 1.0. To stretch the fabric while sewing, set the dial lower than 1.0. Keep things moving along evenly with these easily accessible controls that allow you to adjust feed and stitch length to perfection.
Built-in Needle Threader
The convenience of a built-in needle threader saves valuable time and struggle, so you can get started faster or efficiently change threads as you go. Use the needle threader switch lever to either L or R to choose which needle to thread. Simply slide the lever down and effortlessly thread the needles.
Safety First
The Elna eXtend 864 Air is equipped with a safety device preventing the machine from sewing if the presser foot is raised or if the looper cover or side cover is open. Ultimately, this prevents accidental operation of the serger during the threading process.
Waste Collector
A useful waste chip box can be attached to the serger to keep your sewing area clean by catching cuts from fabrics and thread trimmings while you continue serging.
5-Level Presser Foot Pressure Dial
Easily adjust the presser foot pressure depending on the type of fabric being used. The five levels allow you to adapt to a wide range of materials without problems. The standard setting for ordinary fabric is N. By turning the dial towards you, you can adjust to lightweight fabrics and away from you for heavier-weight fabrics.
